Contribute to this project

If you study demographics or know where the best sources and adjusted estimates are for your country, this project can use your help.

Every page has a source panel documenting the data used, and methodology behind any estimates. Contributors with original data and estimates will be credited there.

What we're looking for:

Sourcing

Pointing us to the most reliable data for your country or region, especially sources that aren't well-known outside local research communities. Official statistics, academic studies, government reports, historical census records.

Original estimates

If you produce your own demographic estimates or have access to unpublished research, we're interested. All contributions are credited, and methodology is published alongside the data.

Corrections

If you think our numbers are wrong or that our methodology for a given country is flawed, we want to know. The point is accuracy, not defending existing estimates.

New metrics

The site currently tracks ethnic composition as its core metric, but the project's scope is broader. If you can point to data for the metrics listed below, or propose others we haven't considered, reach out.

Methodology review

Critique of how we derive estimates, how we handle proxy methods in countries that suppress ethnic data, how we reconcile inconsistent census categories across time.

Roadmap:

The following are metrics we intend to add, ideally tracked by ancestry — country of birth fails to capture second- and third-generation populations and is therefore inadequate for measuring the long-term consequences of demographic change.

  • Yearly immigration numbers by country of origin, including illegal immigration estimates
  • Share of population by religion
  • Net fiscal contribution by ancestry group
  • Crime rates by ancestry group
  • Fertility rates by ancestry group
  • Age structure by ancestry group

If you have data, sources, or expertise relevant to any of the above, or if you think we're missing something, get in touch.
